Fern Whelan

Former England Lioness and Women’s Super League footballer Fern Whelan has been building quite a reputation off the pitch as well as on it.

Since being voted FA Young Player of The Year and European Under-19 player of the tournament she followed this up by winning the FA Cup and League Cup as well as playing in the Quarter Finals of The Champions League.

Fern has also gained experience in TV and media work including being part of the coverage of the women's World Cup qualifiers on Sky Sports, and also working for Channel 4 and BBC.

Off the pitch she is a qualified physiotherapist after completing her degree at the University of Salford and in 2014 completed her masters in sports and injury rehabilitation with distinction.

Following her retirement in 2020 after more than 15 years as a professional footballer, Fern joined the PFA as the union's first Women's Football EDI Executive.

Fern is part of the Women's Football and Equalities departments, and draws from her own professional experience as a player, chartered physiotherapist and media personality.
