Michael Caulfield
One of the UK’s leading Sport Psychologists
Exclusive insights from the world's elite coaches and sporting champions to reinforce your company's core performance messages and create a learning impact that your delegates will never forget.
Michael is best known as the Sports Psychologist for Brentford FC who have received amazing reviews for the culture and environment that they have built in taking what is essentially a small family club into the Premier League - to not just surviving but thriving in this elite sporting environment.
Working with players and staff from countries all over the world Michael has the incredible skill to cut straight through all of the noise and address the most important things that really matter, the people, how they feel, the importance of listening, talking and appreciating each other and recognising that everyone in the organisation is important to the team performance.
He also works with the Ireland cricket team, The Northern Ireland International football team and Northants Rugby. Previously he was the former CEO of the Professional Jockey Association where he formed a close working relationship with Sir A P McCoy. After fifteen years as Chief Executive of the Professional Jockeys Association (PJA), he retrained as a Sports Psychologist as having worked with that extraordinary group of sportsmen and women, it was clear to him that so many athletes, managers, coaches, executives and just about any profession you care to think of, require support to help them perform and cope with the many challenges we all face in life.
Michael has worked with some remarkable people and teams throughout his career including former England National Team Manager Gareth Southgate and Gold medalist Olympian Mo Farah.
Michael's main focus is working with people, teams, organisations to help them to fulfil their potential in their chosen field. That may be at the highest possible level imaginable on the global stage, through to people who just want to enjoy what they do, at whatever level appeals to them. Michael shares his insights and bringing psychology to life, with his unique sense of timing and humour.
He has travelled extensively working in many sporting disciplines and competitions, speaking at conferences, studying areas of human performance that have led him to where he is today.
It is also not a trail of spectacular success, far from it. There have been some wonderful triumphs from Lord's to Wembley, via Bangalore and Brisbane, but also some major disappointments and losses which are hard to shake off, but vital for learning.
Michael has also been instrumental behind the - Brentford benches - with the club about to place a number of benches around the borough. The benches will be available for anyone to use and they will have the plaque saying ‘Talking is the Best Tactic’ [the slogan for the Premier League’s campaign]. They will be for people to just go and sit down and talk, and it could be someone they know well or someone they don’t know so well.”

Gareth Southgate OBE - Former England Football Manager
"I first met Michael Caulfield when I was still playing at Middlesbrough. As is his way, an enjoyable chat, led to more inquisitive conversations and we've continued those to this day in a quest for constant improvement and knowledge, I think on both sides. He simplifies sport, understands the changing room and connects with players and coaches from all backgrounds. If you only want science, data and measures, look elsewhere. If you want someone who can make sense of all the clutter that exists in the minds of all athletes and coaches and help them focus on performance, then give Mike a ring."
Clare Balding OBE - Award winning Presenter, Author and journalist
"When life gets tough, when challenges become too stressful to manage or a solution seems impossible to find, Corky is the man to turn to. With a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed, he can help bring out the best in you and your team. "
Paul Hayward - Chief Sports Writer at the Telegraph
"Michael is one of the most inspiring people I've met in 32 years in the sports media: a man of outstanding skill, integrity and insight. He under stands the human element that underpins performance and always places the person first in his work. You'd always want him on your team."
Dean Smith - Head Coach Charlotte FC
"Michael Caulfield was an integral part of our team at Brentford, who helped to harness a culture for a great learning experience for all involved. In my experience of Michael, he helps develop the person by being a solid human being himself, no gizmos just real. As a Sports psychologist - the best I have come across. "
Sir A P McCoy - Twenty times Champion Jockey and Sports Personality of the Year
"Michael is a master of his profession. I have known him for twenty five years and over that time, he has been a constant support and trusted friend too. He is far more than a sports psychologist, he is also a great leader and team player and would recommend him to any ambitious team or individual."
